My Experience at "Gas & Oil Pakistan"
Today, I completed 8 weeks of my Internship at Gas & Oil
Pakistan. I still remember the days during Ramadan when I was completely
frustrated for getting an internship at any organization. I knew how hard it
was to get a Job in Pakistan but to my surprise getting an internship was not a
piece of cake as well.
Having a good GPA from a very reputed university was of no use when no company
was willing to call for an internship and then I had to step down to start
looking for internships in Startups. To my frustration I wrote an article
“Recruiters make a very Bad mistake. This needs to STOP !!! ” which was
intended for the HR Department who dont even bother to reply.
Ironically, A day after I wrote this article I got a call from an HR Manager at
Gas & Oil Pakistan who scheduled an interview with me and after the call I
kept on thinking that whether I applied in this company or not. TBH, I applied
in almost 20 to 30 companies and I even forgot which company was calling me for
the interview.
My Interview went very well with the HR Executive and the next day I was called
for another interview by the Sr Manager of that company which also went great
after which I started my Internship. The twist here is that I was asked to do
an internship in the HR department which I wasn’t willing to do at first
because of my background in Marketing and Finance but just to know how the
recruitment process works I made my mind to work here in HR department
.
After a few days, I hesitantly asked my Manager that where did they get my CV
from and he replied “Rozee.pk”. I was very surprised at first that this really
works. He said “We hire candidates from LinkedIn, Rozee.pk and almost every
place the right candidate is from. I got very happy that my profile on Rozee.pk
and LinkedIn helped me get an internship and this was my first lesson to build
a strong profile on these networks because recruiters are searching for You and
with incomplete data you might lose a chance for something interesting.
I wont discuss my responsibilities at Internship but what I can proudly tell is
that none of it was related to photo copying and file signing. They also paid
me a very reasonable stipend and all of my work was just the same as of the
manager and not of an Office Boy. I learned a lot here. I learned how these
organizations work and how things work here at HR department.
It was an OMC (Oil Marketing Company) with vast opportunites and is one of the
organizations which I might prefer to work after graduation because of its
culture and much more.
Working here was an experience to count and the people whom I worked with were
just like my brothers who were great mentors, teachers and motivators. I worked
here 9am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday and there was not a single day when I
felt frustrated or tired with my internship. When I started my Internship it
was of 6weeks but later on I got it extended it for another 2weeks.
Those who are searching for a job, I prefer that you should definitely apply
here and you wont regret your decision.
